Not just Shark Pictures:
Elasmodiver contains photos of sharks, skates, rays, and chimaera's
from around the world. It began as a simple web based field guide to
help divers find the best places to encounter different species of
sharks and rays but it has slowly evolved into a much larger project
containing information on all aspects of shark diving and
photography. There are now more than a thousand shark pictures
and sections on shark evolution, biology, and conservation. There is
a large library of reviewed shark books, a constantly outdated shark
taxonomy page, a monster list of shark links, and deeper in the site
there are numerous articles and stories about shark encounters.
Elasmodiver is now so difficult to check for updates, that new
information and pictures are listed
on an Elasmodiver Updates Page that
can be accessed here:
If you're
looking for a broader range of marine life pictures the following
links represent a new area that contains pictures on other marine
organisms and on marine habitats. This expansion of Elasmodiver is
in its first stages but will eventually include pages on everything
from sea stars to nudibranches. Creating this portal will take time
and for now it consists of a token offering of fish pictures. Please
return regularly to enjoy the progress.
Eli started Shark Diver Magazine while
convalescing after an accident he sustained riding bulls on the
professional rodeo circuit. Unable to get his thrills in the bull ring, he
took up scuba diving and immediately gravitated towards big animal
encounters - especially with sharks.
Finding a niche market inside the
diving industry, Eli put together the first issue of SDM with the backing of
his family. The magazine was well received by the many shark diving
enthusiasts around the world and a number of fanatical shark divers became
regular contributors.
With no literary background, Eli's
expertise as an editor has been a humorous aspect of the magazine since it's
inception. Although his Texan prose and occasional typos have turned off
certain highbrow readers, his irascible enthusiasm and energy continue to
drive the magazine forward and each issue is eagerly awaited by its core
readership.
Shark Diver Magazine is available in
the US from Barnes and Noble and by subscription tworldwide through the SDM
website.
In 1995 Eli continued to expand his
horizons by producing his first full length shark diving film 'Summer of the
Sharks'. The film follows three shark divers on a road trip through North
America and the Caribbean as they film different species of sharks and
collect stories for the magazine.
Summer of the Sharks is available on
DVD through the Shark Diver Magazine website.
Having honed his skills as an
underwater cameraman on the set of Summer of the Sharks, Eli has since
assisted on numerous other productions for networks such as Discovery
and National Geographic Television.
Eli is planning to film 'Summer of the
Sharks 2' during 2010.
Eli lives in Alamo, Texas with his
wife and three sons.
